Of course I'm going to be biased towards any trip to Georgia because it's my home and it's amazing, but this particular trip was tons of fun. Josh and I took a day trip to Atlanta and went to the Georgia Aquarium, CNN Center and an Atlanta Braves game all in one day!
The Aquarium in Atlanta is supposed to be the largest indoor aquarium in the world. They are the only aquarium that has whale sharks outside of Asia. They also have beluga whales, great hammerhead sharks, manta rays, and about 100,000 other fish! The aquarium is broken down into exhibits like River Scout or Ocean Voyager. They also have a few touch pools where you can touch stingrays, baby hammerhead sharks, horseshoe crabs and anemones.
The penguin exhibit was my favorite for sure. It's newly designed so that you can crawl through a tunnel with the penguins swimming around you...They liked Josh's hat...and then you can stand up in a bubble in the exhibit! That's how I was so close to them in my picture!!
After we finished exploring the aquarium, we walked across Centennial Olympic Park to the CNN Center. Josh loves journalism things so I thought he would enjoy the behind the scenes tour they offer. The CNN Center is so big! It's home to the longest free-standing escalator because the building used to be home to an old amusement park. The tour showed us all of the important newsrooms and broadcasting places. It is interesting to see everything that must take place in order for viewers at home to see the news. Photography is not allowed during the tour for apparent reasons but if you ever get the chance to take the tour, it's well worth it.
Since we only had a day to spend in Atlanta, we stopped our sight-seeing here but if you have the opportunity to stay for a few days, there is a City Pass available for many of the big attractions in the Atlanta area such as the aquarium, CNN Center, the Atlanta Zoo, the World of Coca-Cola and more!
After the CNN Center, Josh and I met up with my sister for the Atlanta Braves game. I used the trusty Stub Hub site for tickets and they were fairly good seats! Any game at Turner Field is fun and this one especially was because they were celebrating Christmas in July! There was a big Christmas tree in the plaza with Santa Claus sitting in front of it in case any children wanted to get a jump start on their Christmas wish list!
The Braves has a fireworks show after every Friday night game during the summer so we were able to watch them while we walked to our car so that we could avoid some of the traffic!
Overall, the trip to Atlanta was a success and I hope everyone gets a chance to visit all of the Atlanta attractions!! Next Atlanta trip = Six Flags!!
