Moosehead Lake

Another day trip that we took while in Maine was to hike Mount Kineo at Moosehead Lake. As you can see from the Google Maps picture, we were basically on an island on the middle of the lake. We took a ferry over to the mountain. People who ride the ferry either hike up Mount Kineo or play golf on their beautiful golf course which is right beside the mountain.

The hike was pretty steep in some parts. Josh, his brother Matt, his dad and I roughed it on the 1 mile hike up the mountain. There were spectacular views of the lake all of the way up the trail!
At the peak of the mountain, there was a fire tower that's still in use! We walked up all 4 flights of stairs and ate lunch on top of the tower. We were taller than all of the trees around us! I was a little scared especially when you could feel the tower shake when other people walked up and down the stairs. It was a very enjoyable day hike and I would recommend it to anyone if you ever take a trip up to northwestern Maine!

Steamboat Natchez

Next time you are in New Orleans, you should ride on the last steamboat on the Mississippi River- the Natchez. It's a wonderful experience for all ages! The cruise lasts for 2 hours and take you down the Mississippi while providing information about area. Our cruise narrator told us about the levee system, cargo imports and exports, hurricane damages, even old battle grounds and the old Jackson Barracks! A unique view of Jackson Square on the top and New Orleans at the bottom! Visit Steamboat Natchez for more information and reservations!!

Biking around Acadia

Last week, Josh, his brother, Matt and I drove up to Acadia National Park to bike around. I had been to Acadia before two years ago and loved it so I was excited to go again. A cool thing to know about Acadia is that most of the park is not accessible by car. The major highlights of the park like Thunder Hole and the top of Cadillac Mountain are, but the Carriage Trail includes many trails around lakes and along the coast that are only for biking, hiking or horseback. We were able to go along two of these trails during our 4 hour bike rental from Bar Harbor Bicycle Shop. The first trail we took was around Witch Hunt pond which you can see behind super strong Josh and Matt in the picture above. It looks like a great place to find moose early or late in the day! Even though we were riding around in the middle of the afternoon, it wasn't very hot out at all! The Georgia girl in me was so surprised that I wasn't dripping sweat outside in July but we had delightful weather and delig...

Pennington Balloon Festival

On August 6th and 7th, I went to the Balloon Festival in Baton Rouge! There were the festival must-haves such as the food vendors selling funnel cakes, turkey on a stick, coconut shrimp on a stick and many other foods that have no nutritional value at all,,,,, there were festival games such as a rock climbing wall and an inflatable human hamster ball thing.... and then there were the balloons!! Yummy!!! Josh was really into taking pictures as well It's starting to fill up!! Both nights were supposed to start with a mass ascension but they couldn't go up either night due to storm clouds being within a certain distance from the field. The highlight of both nights though was the balloon glow! We got to watch 20-30 hot air balloons fill up with air and then the announcer synchronized their fire lighting so that the field was filled with the lights from the balloons at once and then the balloons would all randomly flick their lights on and off. Both were so beautiful and t...
